Liverpool have offered goalkeeper Adrian a new contract, as confirmed by the club's official website.

The club statement on 5 June shared the Reds' released and retained list, with Joel Matip and Thiago among the departing players.

Adrian, however, has been given the chance to extend his stay at Anfield, with youth goalkeepers Jacob Poytress and Reece Trueman also offered new deals.

Should Liverpool really keep Adrian?

The move to extend Adrian's stay at Liverpool appears, on the surface of things, an odd one.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper has played just twice in the last three seasons and has not made a single appearance this term.

His last outing came on 30 July, 2022 in the 3-1 Community Shield victory over Manchester City, while his last Premier League appearance was on 28 February, 2021 in a 2-0 win over Sheffield United.

However, second-choice shot-stopper Caoimhin Kelleher has expressed a desire to seek regular first-team opportunities elsewhere and new head coach Arne Slot is perhaps keen to avoid being left short in the goalkeeping department.

Alisson missed 17 games through injury or illness in 2023/24 and Kelleher was required to step up, making 26 appearances in all competitions.

Should Kelleher leave, a replacement second-choice is likely to be acquired and so it remains to be seen if Adrian is content to continue as a non-playing third option or if he would prefer to seek more regular minutes.
