Liverpool fans left truly baffled at new Dominik Szoboszlai announcement

Dominik Szoboszlai has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season.

Liverpool’s signing of Florian Wirtz was expected to cause Szoboszlai issues, but he has stepped up, while the German has struggled to adapt to his new surroundings.

The highlight was his sensational free-kick in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Arsenal, which was compared to a typical Cristiano Ronaldo strike.

The Sofascore graphic below shows the importance of the Hungarian star to Arne Slot‘s side in the early stages of the campaign.

Dominik Szoboszlai named in new Liverpool announcement

Szoboszlai has excelled recently for Liverpool, either in his traditional role in midfield or as a makeshift right-back.

The Reds took to X on 3 October to announce that Szoboszlai had been handed the Standard Chartered Player of the Month award for August.

It is bizarre that it is October, and the club have only just announced the winner for the first month of the campaign.

Liverpool fans baffled by the timing of Szoboszlai award

The above point has been rammed home by Reds supporters after the announcement was made, with many questioning why it has taken so long.

There is no debate that Szoboszlai deserved it, he is finally getting the recognition that he deserves, with his off-the-ball work usually going under the radar with supporters.

One supporter on X said: “For August????? It’s October….why did it take so long to give him it?”

Another commented: “Lads, it’s October.”

It is clear to see that fans have no problem with the 24-year-old winning the award, but the timing of it has left them absolutely baffled.

The strike against the Gunners was a stunning effort, but it was just the start for the former RB Leipzig man, and he has taken his game to the next level in recent months and has become a key asset for the champions, to the extent that he is almost undroppable.

He was absolutely vital to Slot’s charge to the title last season, and if they are to hold off Mikel Arteta’s side and Manchester City this time around, they need him to have a similar impact.

The signs are that he will, and he is surely one of the first names of the teamsheet at the moment.
