Liverpool to be the ultimate beneficiaries amid Federico Chiesa news away from Anfield

Federico Chiesa has crafted himself a cult following since he arrived at Liverpool in 2024.

The Italian has mainly featured off the bench this season, but has popped up for the Reds at pivotal times.

His late winner in Liverpool’s victory against Bournemouth is a highlight of the season, and he has fitted into Arne Slot‘s setup as an impact player from the substitutes’ bench.

Chiesa won the Premier League with Liverpool last season and the winger is beginning to attract the attention of eyes outside of Anfield.

Federico Chiesa set for return to Italian national team

The 27-year-old was a key player in the side that won the rescheduled European Championship in 2021, most notably scoring a goal in the semi-final against Spain.

But he was not included in Gennaro Gattuso’s squad for the World Cup qualifying games in September 2025 after both came to an agreement that the winger was not ready to feature for Italy.

Lewis Steele reported for the Mail that the Italian boss was “very pleased” with Chiesa and has been watching him closely this season.

After being named in the Team of the Tournament during the victorious Euro 2020, he has struggled to reach the same heights he once demonstrated.

Chiesa has 51 caps for Italy and has recorded seven goals.

Chiesa moved to Liverpool from Juventus in August 2024.

After only making six Premier League appearances for the Reds in their title-winning season, the Italian has already made five, all of which have been from the bench.

The 27-year-old has also matched his goal-scoring tally from last season, with the winger netting twice this season.

The Italy call-up will keep Federico Chiesa fit and fresh

Although Chiesa has played in five of Liverpool’s six league encounters this season, he has only clocked 68 minutes of playing time throughout the five matches.

Even though his playing time has been minimal, the Italian’s impact off the bench has been immense.

Chiesa’s haul of two Premier League goals makes him Liverpool‘s joint second-highest goalscorer in the league this season.

But he has proved handy in his forward play when coming off the bench for Slot’s men.

He ranks the highest on the shots on target per 90 minutes metric in the club, and has highlighted that he is a threat when Liverpool are pushing for a goal.

Chiesa was injured for Liverpool’s match against Galatasaray, but had he been fit, there was a good chance the Italian could have salvaged something for the Reds/

The 27-year-old has far to go if he wants to match the feats of cult heroes such as David Fairclough and Divock Origi, but the effort he has demonstrated, as well as the additional game time he will get with the Italian team, will keep him fired up for when Slot is in need of another pivotal goal.
