Simon Jordan calls out Wayne Rooney over Florian Wirtz claim at Liverpool

Florian Wirtz has endured a slow start to his Liverpool career.

Liverpool signed Wirtz in a £116million deal, but he has struggled to hit the heights that were expected from him.

Liverpool have been warned to be patient with Wirtz, but some observers in the media have already called for the German to be dropped by Arne Slot.

It is safe to say that the 22-year-old’s start to his Anfield tenure has divided opinion, especially amongst pundits who speak about the Reds.

Simon Jordan slams Wayne Rooney for Florian Wirtz take

Liverpool have not seen Wirtz at his best, and that has prompted significant discussions around his future in the team.

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show on 29 September, the ex-Manchester United star claimed that he has no clue where Wirtz is supposed to operate.

He said: “I’ve seen players come into this league and it takes time. For me, it’s not the price tag, it’s not the player and his ability.

“I don’t see where he fits into what Liverpool do in that system.

“So, is he a third midfield player? For me, no, he’s more of an attacking player. So if I have to choose between him and Szoboszlai, then I choose Szoboszlai.”

However, Simon Jordan took exception to the claim, and believes that Rooney, whose managerial career has hardly been anything to write home about, cannot give Slot’s advice.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 1 October, he said: “I would suggest that a manager whose main focus in life is to get teams relegated would not really be giving advice to a manager that has won the Premier League.

“I don’t think Arne Slot has got blindspots that Wayne Rooney is going to fill for him.

“Wayne can’t necessarily give the same advice to a manager about how to assemble a team, he can tell you what an elite player looks like, and what an elite player does, because he was one.”

Jordan was not having Rooney’s opinion on Wirtz.

Rooney cannot give Arne Slot advice on tactical matters

Jordan is usually on the wrong side of the discussion, often saying controversial things for the sake of it, to wind people up.

However, he is spot on this time, Rooney cannot offer Slot tactical advice, given his dismal history as a manager.

He may have been fantastic as a player, but he has been sacked by three separate clubs as a manager with the only one he hasn’t been dismissed by being Derby.

The ex-United ace resigned from that role due to the financial issues that the club had, but has failed at DC United, Birmingham City and Plymouth.

He may have been an elite player, but he clearly is not an elite manager, which Slot is, and if anyone can figure out how to get the best of Wirtz, it is the Dutchman, not Rooney.
