Mohamed Salah on verge of Champions League history ahead of Liverpool vs Galatasaray

Mohamed Salah has not had the start he’d have hoped for this season at Liverpool.

Liverpool’s star man has found the net three times so far in all competitions, but his performances away from the stats have caused concern at Anfield.

Salah has always been Mr Reliable for Liverpool, but looks a yard off it this season, struggling to create the type of magic moments we’ve become accustomed to.

Salah was dispossessed three times against Crystal Palace, with many fans and pundits having his opposite man, Tyrick Mitchell, in their Team of the Week.

Liverpool won the Champions League back in 2019, with Salah getting on the scoresheet. This was one of his many 48 goals in the competition.

Salah could make history against Galatasaray

Liverpool take on Galatasaray on Tuesday in the Champions League.

This fixture feels heavier than usual, given the Reds’ patchy early-season form.

Arne Slot’s side has struggled to win convincingly this season already, picking a 3-2 win at home to Atletico Madrid, courtesy of Virgil Van Dijk’s added-time winner.

It’s worth remembering that Salah has set incredibly high standards since joining Liverpool in 2017.

He has scored at least 19 league goals in each of his seven full Premier League seasons, contributing not just goals but assists and decisive moments.

Salah currently sits on 48 goals, needing only two to create history, becoming the first African player to hit 50 Champions League goals.

Liverpool’s reliance on Salah

Salah’s form is more than just an individual concern. Liverpool’s attack has leaned heavily on him for years, and any sustained dip leaves questions about who will shoulder the scoring burden.

Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo have all had bright spells, but none have shown the consistency that Salah has made routine.

If Liverpool is to push deep into Europe once again, their talisman will need to rediscover his ruthless edge, or someone like Alexander Isak will need to step up.

History shows that Salah rarely stays quiet for long, but with the games coming thick and fast, the time to rediscover form is now.

Watch out, Galatasaray.
