Three Liverpool players who have picked themselves vs Galatasaray despite loss at Crystal Palace

Liverpool suffered their first defeat in the Premier League this season after a late Eddie Nketiah goal snatched all three points for Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Liverpool had to wait until the 87th minute to score as Federico Chiesa slotted home his second league goal of the season to snatch a draw, or so he thought, before it finished 2-1.

Arne Slot‘s men now look ahead to the Champions League as Liverpool face a feisty encounter against Galatasaray in Istanbul.

Anfield was treated to a 3-2 victory against Atletico Madrid in their opening game as Virgil van Dijk‘s late header claimed the win for Liverpool.

With the possibility of squad rotation being employed, these players must start for the Reds.

Alisson

His understudy, Giorgi Mamardashvili, made his debut against Southampton in the Carabao Cup, but the Georgian will likely stay on the bench in Istanbul.

The Brazilian international has consistently bailed out Liverpool in the past, and he should be the first name on the team sheet as one of their toughest away trips yet awaits them on Tuesday.

Dominik Szoboszlai

The Hungarian holds one of the landmark moments of the season so far after his winning free kick sent Anfield into raptures during Liverpool’s 1-0 victory against Arsenal.

In a game that saw Liverpool have 72 per cent of the possession, the midfielder was at the core of all things positive for the visitors and was eager to drive Liverpool into the opponents’ third.

A similar test awaits Slot’s men in the Champions League, as they will likely face another low block, so Szoboszlai could be the key man to break the Galatasaray defence.

Ryan Gravenberch

The Dutch central midfielder has gone from strength to strength since making his move to Liverpool in 2023.

Gravenberch has been a touch of class in the Reds’ midfield and has been offered much in both attack and defence for Slot on Merseyside.

Granted, the 23-year-old was at fault for conceding Liverpool’s first after a botched clearance, but he has registered two goals and one assist in the Premier League this season, while operating as a holding midfielder.

Slot is gifted with numerous creative midfielders, but Gravenberch will be needed against Galatasaray as he will be on hand to mop up any attacks the Turkish side produces on Tuesday.
