Liverpool told to demand more money after what Caoimhin Kelleher did vs Manchester United

Caoimhin Kelleher ended his spell on the Liverpool bench this summer by joining Brentford.

Kelleher left Liverpool to join Brentford for an initial £12.5million, after being unable to usurp the number one shirt at Anfield from Alisson.

Giorgi Mamardashvili’s arrival at Liverpool this summer from Valencia sealed the Irishman’s fate, who knew he needed to move on to get regular first-team football.

Brentford have endured a mixed start to the new season under new boss Keith Andrews, and welcomed Manchester United to the Gtech Community Stadium looking for just their second win of the season.

Kelleher started Saturday’s game, and what he did against the old enemy had Liverpool fans buzzing.

Caoimhin Kelleher saves penalty as Brentford beat Manchester United

Brentford were victorious against United to heap more pressure on Ruben Amorim, who has endured a nightmare spell at Old Trafford.

Igor Thiago stole the show in the first half, scoring twice early on to give the Bees a fully deserved 2-0 lead after just 20 minutes.

Benjamin Sesko pulled one back before Bryan Mbuemo won a penalty on his return to West London after being pulled back by Nathan Collins.

Bruno Fernandes stepped up, but Kelleher was on hand to make a great save to keep Andrews’ side in front.

Mathias Jensen then launched a rocket into the top corner in the fifth minute of stoppage time to finish off the contest and condemn United to their third league defeat of the season.

Liverpool fans laud Caoimhin Kelleher after Man United save

Kelleher has always been known for his ability from spot-kicks, with the most recent being a great save against Kylian Mbappe in Liverpool’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Real Madrid at Anfield last season.

The fact that his first penalty save for his new side has come against Man United of all sides gave Reds fans a real buzzing feeling, until they saw Liverpool fall to a 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace.

One fan said: “Send us extra cash.”

Another said: “Nahhhh Kelleher is cracked on pens man, he hates the Mancs.”

A third supporter said: “Kelleher is a cheat code for penalties.”

A fourth fan said: “Kelleher is one of the best penalty saving goalkeepers I’ve ever seen.”

Another supporter said: “Kelleher is the penalty specialist we all want Alisson to be.”

The Brentford move has given the Irishman a chance to establish himself at a side out of the limelight of the so-called Big Six, with the goal of solidifying his role as Ireland’s number one permanently in the long-term in his sights.

Kelleher has the potential to be a top class goalkeeper, and that penalty save will do him the world of good at his new club.
