Arne Slot has this player to thank for avoiding real Liverpool embarrassment vs Crystal Palace

Liverpool were poor in the first half against Crystal Palace in a game they went on to lose 2-1 in dramatic circumstances.

Ismaila Sarr continued his brilliant record against Liverpool to give Palace an early lead after Ryan Gravenberch inadvertently headed the ball into his path from a Palace corner.

The Reds improved massively in the second half and got their reward through substitute Federico Chiesa’s late finish in the 87th minute, but Eddie Nketiah found a winner in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

Liverpool came into the game looking to extend their perfect start to the season after beating Southampton 2-1, but the margin of defeat could have been even larger if not for one player.

Alisson shines with three world class saves to keep Liverpool in game vs Crystal Palace

Alisson was excellent against Crystal Palace and proved yet again that he is the best goalkeeper in the world.

The Brazilian was voted second in the Yashin Trophy rankings on Monday behind Gianluigi Donnarumma, despite some great performances during the season, including a masterclass during a 1-0 win at Paris Saint-Germain back in March.

Alisson was unbelievable against Crystal Palace

Alisson has responded with a monstrous performance against the Eagles, making four world-class saves, including three in the first half to keep the score down to just 1-0.

As per Sofascore, he prevented 0.89 goals in terms of xG faced, highlighting his importance between the sticks.

Liverpool fell just short of rescuing a point, but Slot has Alisson to thank for avoiding what would have been an embarrassing margin of defeat if not for those top saves.

Alisson bailed out Ibrahima Konate on numerous occasions against Crystal Palace

Ibrahima Konate was dreadful again for Liverpool, as he has been for most of the season.

Konate has been at the centre of transfer interest from Real Madrid, with the Frenchman’s contract set to expire at the end of the season.

As a result, Konate’s performances have dipped considerably this season, prompting criticism from pundits such as Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.

That criticism is likely to return after the former RB Leipzig defender was hooked off in the second half after a dismal display, and his erratic play was only spared by the grateful grasps from Alisson.
