Liverpool line up blockbuster signing of ‘beast’ defender, transfer fee already decided

Liverpool are already planning for new transfers despite a significant outlay in the summer.

Liverpool signed Alexander Isak in a £125million deal to take their spending to almost £450m across the window.

Florian Wirtz was added to Liverpool’s squad for £116m, and there were other big signings such as Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong.

Liverpool tried to sign Marc Guehi, but they could not get a deal over the line, and a defender remains on their wishlist going forward.

Liverpool chasing Dayot Upamecano after new Bayern Munich update

Liverpool also signed Hugo Ekitike from the Bundesliga, and they could enter that market again for a new defender in the future.

A report from BILD on 25 September claims that the Reds are chasing Bayern Munich star Dayot Upamecano.

It states that the France international is available on a free transfer next summer, and he is on Slot’s side’s radar for a blockbuster move.

Dayot Upamecano has previously been described as a ‘beast’

Former Red Bull Salzburg manager Thomas Letsch loved managing the 26-year-old and was highly complimentary of his ability.

Speaking to Goal after he made the move to RB Leipzig, he said: “Off the pitch, he was completely reserved and shy.

“He didn’t get a word out and looked down rather than in your eyes, on the pitch, however, he became a machine, a beast, a terrier. His speed, robustness and mentality were already very pronounced at the age of 16.”

Upamecano is a top-quality defender, and if the Reds lose Ibrahima Konate, with Real Madrid circling around him, they will need to enter the market to sign a suitable replacement who has significant experience at the top level of the game.

If they could add the French ace and Guehi, both on free transfers, it would be a masterstroke from Fenway Sports Group and boost Slot’s squad depth in the process.

The Reds currently have Virgil van Dijk, Konate and Joe Gomez available, after new man Giovanni Leoni suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Losing Konate would be a huge blow, but a potential double signing would lessen the impact of a departure to their centre-back room, and perhaps even improve the depth at the L4 outfit’s disposal.
