Finance Expert reacts to new Rio Ngumoha contract as agents share Liverpool reveal

Liverpool ace Rio Ngumoha is one of the hottest talents in world football right now.

The 17-year-old has been a revelation since Arne Slot introduced him to the first-team squad, even scoring the winner in Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Newcastle.

Chelsea were furious when Liverpool poached Ngumoha, and it is clear to see why after his recent exploits for the Merseysiders.

Real Madrid were interested in the Liverpool gem, but the Reds have ensured that he will be sticking around at Anfield for years to come.

Rio Ngumoha new Liverpool contract details shared

Ngumoha has been rewarded for his Liverpool form, with a new contract worth in the region of £1,000-per-week, with agents revealing bonuses are set to take that figure higher.

Plumley believes that the kind of incentive contract that Ngumoha has signed will become the norm within the game.

Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, he said: “Yeah, absolutely, it is the added incentives alongside the baseline contracts, which, you know, it is decent money for a 17-year-old playing football.

“It is always going to a smaller, flatter baseline fee, and then that is where the bonuses and the add-ons come in to incentivise it.

“Ultimately, that is what it is there to do, that is why we see these things happen, it is one of that is just becoming more commonplace even with the youngsters, and that is where you can top that basic salary up.”

Liverpool convinced Rio Ngumoha with playing time rather than money

The L4 outfit convinced the former Cobham to join them for opportunities with the first team, rather than financial benefits.

He has made significant strides into the senior side since joining in the summer of 2024, as he has featured for the Reds on five separate occasions already.

He made his debut against Accrington Stanley in a 4-0 FA Cup win last season and has since gone on to play in the league and the Champions League.

He started the Carabao Cup win over Southampton on 23 September, and so far it looks like he made the right decision, as he would not have gotten those chances in Chelsea’s first team.
