Liverpool’s new Premier League title chances revealed after Arsenal draw with Man City

Liverpool have a 100 per cent record in the Premier League this season as they aim for back-to-back titles.

Arne Slot’s side breezed to Premier League glory last season, with competitors Arsenal and Manchester City falling well behind early on.

Liverpool recorded a vital victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby, and they had the perfect weekend as Arsenal and Man City played out a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

Goals from Erling Haaland and Gabriel Martinelli meant that both Arsenal and Man City dropped points, and this has handed Liverpool a boost in the title race.

Liverpool backed for Premier League title

Liverpool are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League, with Arsenal and Tottenham level on 10 points from their opening five games.

There is still room for improvement for Slot’s side, with Alexander Isak set to make more of an impact once he fully settles.

After Isak joined the Reds on deadline day, Opta gave Liverpool a 50.54 per cent chance of winning the title.

Following the draw between Arsenal and Man City, these predictions have now changed, with Liverpool receiving a major boost in their chances.

Opta’s Premier League title projections

Liverpool’s expected points total of 81.51 is a rise on the 79.02 total they were previously predicted, while their 60.51 per cent chance of winning the title is significantly higher than before.

Arsenal and Man City both saw rises in their points projections, but Arsenal’s title chances have marginally decreased, while City’s have slightly increased.

Head-to-head games could determine Premier League title race

Liverpool beat Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield in August, courtesy of a late winner from Dominik Szoboszlai, and Mikel Arteta’s side dropped points at home against Pep Guardiola.

Slot is yet to face Guardiola this season, with the two sides set to meet on November 9, and these head-to-head games could play a big part in the title race.

If Liverpool can beat both Arsenal and Man City, they will steal extra ground in the title race, and will raise more questions for Arteta and Guardiola.

With Liverpool already pulling ahead, Arteta and Guardiola’s best chances of winning the title would surely require them to beat Slot in at least one of their encounters, and the Reds will be confident they can avoid defeat in these clashes.
