Liverpool vs Southampton preview: Team news, likely lineups, score prediction

Liverpool face Southampton in the third round of Carabao Cup action on Tuesday.

Liverpool beat Everton 2-1 to maintain their 100 per cent start to their Premier League campaign in a tense Merseyside derby on 20 September.

Southampton lost last time out, with a 3-1 loss to Hull City, and have won just one of their last six matches in all competitions.

They head to Anfield on 23 September, looking to cause an upset against a Liverpool side that lost the final of the Carabao Cup last season.

Team News

Slot could make 10 changes for the clash with the Championship outfit, with Rio Ngumoha set for his first Liverpool start of the season.

The Liverpool boss has already confirmed that Mohamed Salah will not feature, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Ryan Gravenberch also rested.

The likes of Giovanni Leoni and Giorgi Mamardashvili could make their Reds debuts in the clash, with Joe Gomez, Federico Chiesa and Trey Nyoni also potentially starting in a much-changed line-up.

Alexander Isak is predicted to lead the line as he continues to get back to full fitness, after he made a 23-minute cameo against the Blues.

For the visitors, Samuel Edozie is a doubt, and Welington will miss the trip to Merseyside with an ankle injury.

Likely lineups

Liverpool: Mamardashvili; Bradley, Leoni, Gomez, Robertson; Endo, Nyoni, Jones; Ngumoha, Chiesa, Isak

Southampton: McCarthy; Edwards, Wood, Stephens; Roerslev, Fraser, Downes, Charles, Manning; Stewart, Archer

Prediction: Liverpool 4-0 Southampton

The Reds are expected to brush lower opposition away in this encounter.

The likes of Ngumoha and Isak are proven difference makers, and it will be difficult for the Championship side to handle them.

Given the poor form that the Saints are in at the moment, their task will be even harder on this occasion.
