What Marc Guehi has now told advisors about signing for Liverpool

Liverpool will hope to sign Marc Guehi on a free transfer next summer, after their transfer deadline day push for the defender collapsed.

Guehi had even been pictured in Liverpool training gear in the hours before his £35million move from Crystal Palace fell apart.

The defender had been touted as a key target for the Reds throughout the summer, and a deal looked to be finally about to get over the line.

But when West Ham hijacked Crystal Palace’s move for Julio Igor, the Eagles pulled the plug on the Guehi deal, with Oliver Glasner reportedly willing to resign had the move been sanctioned.

Liverpool signed Giovanni Leoni from Parma earlier in the summer, but had hoped to add a more experienced option to allow the 18-year-old to bed in.

Liverpool to miss out on Marc Guehi in shock twist

Ibrahima Konate is yet to sign a new contract at Liverpool, with Real Madrid reportedly confident of convincing the defender to follow Trent Alexander-Arnold to La Liga.

The Frenchman has been in impressive form so far this season, but his contract situation has decision-makers at Anfield already assessing replacement options for next summer.

Guehi was reportedly viewed more as a long-term replacement for club captain Virgil van Dijk, who, whilst still looking to be at his best, will turn 35 next year.

The Crystal Palace man enjoyed a strong season for the Eagles last season, and has emerged among Thomas Tuchel’s first choices for the centre of England’s defence, too.

But Liverpool could ultimately lose both Konate and Guehi, according to the Mirror.

The outlet reported on Saturday that the 25-year-old has told his advisors that his heart is set on a move to Real Madrid, who are now poised to enter negotiations for the defender.

Liverpool could use Marc Guehi decision in Ibrahima Konate negotiations

Liverpool would be left with a disastrous situation should both Konate and Guehi decide to sign for Real Madrid.

Arne Slot would be forced to identify two new centre-backs for the club to sign next summer, with one required to walk into the starting line-up and partner Van Dijk.

But Guehi’s reported decision could also play in their favour in negotiations with Konate.

Should Liverpool be able to convince the Frenchman that the competition for his place will be too strong in Spain, the defender could well decide his future is better served staying at Anfield – an ideal scenario on all accounts for Slot.
