Arne Slot confirms Mohamed Salah to be axed from Liverpool side after what happened at Anfield

Liverpool beat Everton 2-1 in the Merseyside derby on Saturday, but it was not the easiest three points at Anfield.

Goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike sent Liverpool into a comfortable lead, but Everton fought and claimed a goal back through Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Liverpool held firm to secure all three points and make it five wins from five to start the season, the first time they have won five league games in a row under Arne Slot.

The Reds face a busy schedule as they aim to balance their Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup commitments, and they are now set for major changes.

Mohamed Salah among players to be dropped from Liverpool squad

Liverpool will face Southampton in the Carabao Cup in their next game, and Slot has now confirmed that he will make huge changes for the game.

Several players played all 90 minutes as Liverpool secured late wins over Burnley and Atletico Madrid, and did the same against Everton.

Mohamed Salah played all 90 minutes in all three games, scoring a penalty against Burnley and playing a part in two of the goals against Atletico.

Dominik Szoboszlai, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Gravenberch also played the entirety of those three games, and none will feature against Southampton.

“I can tell you now, you won’t be seeing them on Tuesday,” Slot stated after the win over Everton.

Federico Chiesa to earn Liverpool chance

Federico Chiesa was left out of the Champions League registration, but was also absent from the squad against Everton as he was overlooked for a spot on the bench.

However, Chiesa appears happy to play a backup role, and the Southampton game will give him a chance to shine.

With Salah absent, Chiesa is likely to start on the right wing, and talented youngster Rio Ngumoha could also be in line to start on the left.

One of Alexander Isak or Ekitike could be rotated in, with Slot mixing up his rotations in order to keep the winning momentum in his side.
