Alexander Isak issue, Milos Kerkez responds – Three things we learned from Liverpool’s win vs Everton

Liverpool survived to beat Everton 2-1 in a tense Merseyside derby on Saturday.

Liverpool opened the scoring through Ryan Gravenberch and they doubled their lead through Hugo Ekitike, going into the break with a two-goal lead.

Idrissa Gueye pulled one back for the visitors, but there was no need for Liverpool to score another late goal as they held on for the win.

David Moyes’ dismal record at Anfield continues, the Blues boss is now winless in 23 matches at the Reds’ ground.

Milos Kerkez responds perfectly to being dropped by Arne Slot

Milos Kerkez was dropped by Liverpool boss Arne Slot for the 3-2 Champions League win over Atletico Madrid.

However, he was named in the starting line-up for the Merseyside derby, and he responded perfectly to being axed for the previous match.

The Hungarian played the full match, and his display was impressive, potentially earning his place back in the team.

Kerkez made six clearances, two interceptions and completed two tackles in the tense contest, per Sofascore.

The new Reds star won six of the nine duels that he attempted, for a 66 per cent success rate.

Alexander Isak has an issue after Hugo Ekitike Liverpool scenes

Alexander Isak started from the bench for Liverpool, after playing 57 minutes against Diego Simeone’s side.

Hugo Ekitike was given the nod ahead of the Sweden striker, due to concerns over his fitness after he missed pre-season and the opening four league matches.

The newly-capped France ace notched the second goal for the Reds, which proved to be the winner in the end.

He also completed all four dribbles that he attempted and also contributed defensively, winning six of nine ground duels.

Ekitike now has four goals in his first seven matches for the L4 outfit, and Isak may find it difficult to overhaul him in the pecking order, given his recent form.

Ryan Gravenberch is the best midfielder in the world

Gravenberch is the best midfielder in football at the moment; there is no getting around that fact anymore.

The Dutchman has had a stunning rise to stardom after being transformed into a number six by Slot at the start of last season.

He continued his impressive run of form against the Toffees, scoring the opener with a beautiful looping effort, before nabbing the assist for Ekitike’s goal in a superb attacking display.

He made one tackle, one interception and won six of the nine grounds duels that he attempted in a brilliant defensive effort.

He can defend, he can attack, and Slot would probably not swap him for anyone in the world right now.
