‘I’m going to say something that will make Liverpool fans rage after first-hand experience’

Liverpool supporters are the centre of the narrative after the 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk scored a late winner to seal a perfect start to the Champions League campaign for Arne Slot’s side on Wednesday.

The Reds had fumbled a two-goal lead, but were bailed out by another late winner, which left Diego Simeone furious on the sidelines.

Simeone clashed with Liverpool fans and stewards after the goal, after his side had thrown away their comeback.

Simon Jordan labels Liverpool as ‘terrible losers’

Jordan regularly airs his controversial Liverpool opinions live on air, and he has spoken out once after the Atletico scenes.

The former Crystal Palace owner revealed that he has personal experience of supporters winding him up at Anfield.

Speaking live on talkSPORT on 16 September, he said: “I’m going to say something, which will make Liverpool fans incandescent, and fuel the narrative that for some reason I dislike Liverpool, which I certainly do not.

“Having taken teams there and scored goals against Liverpool, they are terrible losers; they don’t like it, like most fans don’t like it, they think they are entitled to say whatever they want to you.

“I think they are wonderful supporters, I think it is a wonderful football club, but there is that attitude, that if you score against them, they will give it to you, every club gives it to you, but it is different at Liverpool.”

Liverpool will not care about Diego Simeone scenes

Reds fans are used to not being everyone’s cup of tea; they simply do not care about how they are perceived after years of ridicule on social media and in the press.

As long as the club is successful on the pitch, it does not matter whether rival players, supporters, managers or pundits like you.

The L4 outfit secured a vital win to open their European campaign in the right way. Simeone’s bitter reaction is not unexpected after the way his team threw away a draw.

Simeone is known for his antics on the sidelines; he constantly dishes out passionate reactions to goals and incidents, and sometimes they go over the top, and supporters are allowed to do the same.

It is different if there is an abusive element; then it is not right, but there has been no evidence provided that it was.

Slot and Co will not concern themselves with the reaction to the Simeone scenes; they will just care that they have won a difficult game and move on to the next, the Merseyside derby on Saturday, 20 September.
