Ibrahima Konate takes aim at Liverpool fans in new social media post

Ibrahima Konate has lashed out at Liverpool fans on social media, with his contract situation still looking uncertain.

Real Madrid are confident of signing Konate on a free transfer, with the defender’s terms at Anfield set to expire next summer.

The Reds have already lost one defender to the Spanish giants, when Real Madrid signed boyhood Liverpool player Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer.

The England international is set to return to Anfield in November in the Champions League, with the sides set to face off in the group stage once again.

Liverpool failed with a late bid for Marc Guehi on transfer deadline day, after Crystal Palace pulled the plug on the deal.

Konate is yet to sign a new contract at Liverpool, but his performance have not suffered.

Against Burnley on Sunday, the Frenchman was hugely impressive. Konate won the majority of his duels and made several other key defensive contributions as Arne Slot’s side kept another clean sheet.

It was the second straight clean sheet of the season for Liverpool, despite concerns over defensive depth.

Just Joe Gomez and 18-year-old Giovanni Leoni represent the Reds’ options in the centre of defence past Konate and Virgil van Dijk.

Gomez, as well as Konate, has suffered from several injuries in recent seasons, and Liverpool’s failure to sign Guehi has left Slot hoping that his defence will avoid further issues off the pitch.

Fans of Liverpool remain in the dark over Konate’s intentions at the end of the season, however, and one Liverpool fan page took to Instagram to post about the defender.

On Monday, Liverpoolfcfanpage wrote: “What have you made of Ibrahima Konate these past few games following the poor start he had to the season?”

And in a comment, the 26-year-old himself replied: “The Problem is some of you forget to quick… only after 2 games”

Liverpool stuck in difficult situation with Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool find themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to Konate’s contract situation, similarly to how they did in the case of Alexander-Arnold.

Despite the defender looking set to leave Anfield at the end of last season, Slot continued to select him because, quite simply, he was the best option the Dutchman had.

And the Liverpool boss is in the same position with Konate. The Reds would love to test the Frenchman’s desire to play in next summer’s World Cup by leaving him on the bench, but the centre-half is, by far, the best option at Slot’s disposal to partner Van Dijk.
