Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid: Weather forecast, ticket details and travel information

Liverpool begin their quest for a seventh Champions League title with a much-anticipated opening game against Atletico Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday.

Liverpool were unsuccessful in Europe last campaign, losing on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 after winning the league stage with 21 points.

With additions such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, Liverpool have been made favourites to win the Champions League this season, and have been handed a favourable draw in the league stage.

Liverpool come into the tie on hot form, making it four wins out of four in the Premier League with Mohamed Salah’s last-minute penalty at Burnley.

According to the Met Office, rainfall is expected to come in the early hours of Wednesday morning, but it is expected to clear up by sunrise.

Temperatures of around 16°C are expected during the clash at Anfield, although these temperatures will feel like 14°C.

There is only a 20 per cent chance of precipitation predicted as of 15 September, whilst wind speeds are expected to be low at between 11 and 13mph.

Tickets still available for Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid

Tickets for Liverpool’s Champions League opener have dropped down to an all-members sale, which will take place on Tuesday at 11 am.

Supporters wishing to purchase tickets needed to register their interest via the Reds’ ticketing website before 2 pm on Saturday to be eligible for Tuesday’s sale.

Auto Cup scheme payments were taken between 3-5 September, with sales originally starting at supporters with all five Champions League fixtures from last season.

As of 6 am on 15 September, supporters with one game from last season can purchase until 10:30 am on Monday, but likely, most in that category have already purchased their seats.

Tickets remain available in both tiers of the Anfield Road end, as well as the upper tier of the Main Stand, whilst limited hospitality seats remain available.

Travel guide for fans travelling to Anfield

European nights are always hectic in terms of travel to Merseyside, with traffic coming into Liverpool expected to be extremely busy.

Fans travelling in are best to park away from the stadium, and either walk up or use public transport to get to the ground, with no changes as of yet announced by Mersey Travel.

Fans are advised to arrive early, as queues are expected at the turnstiles, with Anfield using Near Field Communication (NFC) software instead of paper tickets.

Anfield is a cashless stadium, and card payments are needed to purchase anything on-site.
