Liverpool can do something they haven’t done in six years against Burnley

Liverpool have made another excellent start to the Premier League season.

Liverpool beat Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield before the international break to continue their perfect start to the Premier League campaign, after also beating Bournemouth and Newcastle United.

Burnley are next up for Liverpool, who now have Alexander Isak in their ranks after he signed on deadline day from Newcastle in a £125million deal.

The Reds are used to making fast starts to campaigns in recent seasons, but a win at Turf Moor on Sunday will see Arne Slot‘s side do something they haven’t done in six years.

Liverpool looking to start the season with four successive wins

A victory over Burnley will see Liverpool record their best start to the season since the 2019/20 campaign, which notably ended with the Reds lifting the Premier League title under Jurgen Klopp.

In fact, they have only managed to win their first four Premier League games of the season on two occasions, with the other being in 2018/19.

Liverpool ended both of those seasons with their highest-ever points tallies, registering 97 points in 2019 before bettering that tally to 99 in 2020.

With Manchester City stuttering to start the season, a fourth win on the bounce could see the Reds move nine clear of their usual title rivals, should Pep Guardiola’s side lose to Manchester United later on Sunday.

The Reds’ early-season run in 2019/20 saw them fly clear of all their title rivals, being as much as 25 points clear in February and eventually winning the league by a ridiculous 18 points.

Klopp’s side started the season with eight straight wins, the second-longest streak to start the season in Premier League history, behind Chelsea’s nine-game streak in 2005.

Liverpool started their title-winning campaign in 2019/20 in unbelievable form

With City and Chelsea both stumbling to start the season, and with Arsenal facing tricky tests against both Guardiola’s side and Newcastle, Liverpool can perform similarly to their title-winning standards with a similar run to start this campaign.
