Liverpool eye ex-Premier League star’s son who is Neymar’s protege

Liverpool have made a real effort to firm up their youth ranks lately.

Liverpool added Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea’s youth ranks in 2024, and he has already gone on to score his first Premier League goal for the Reds.

Liverpool signed Trey Nyoni and Amaro Nallo in the summer of 2023, but they have not had the same rise to stardom as Ngumoha.

It seems like a real concerted effort to bolster the talent at their disposal to potentially make Arne Slot‘s first-team squad.

Liverpool want Robinho’s son, Neymar is his mentor

Liverpool already have Jayden Danns, Lewis Koumas, and Keyrol Figueroa, who are all sons of former Premier League footballers.

They could be set to add another, as a report from the Daily Mail on 11 September claims that Anfield scout Dassler Marques has attended multiple Santos matches to watch Robinho’s son, Robinho Jr.

It states that Neymar has been a mentor to the 17-year-old, and the move would fit the Reds’ strategy of buying the best talent available.

Robinho. Jr reportedly has a release clause of £43million.

Liverpool’s youth revolution can only be a positive

The Reds have often been criticised for not bringing in young talents before they already make it in European leagues.

The Reds tried to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton for £115million before he moved to Chelsea, with some supporters furious that they had not tried to poach him from Independiente Del Valle before he moved to the Seagulls.

It seems like Richard Hughes and Co have shifted their strategy to try to bring the best talents to Anfield before they become overpriced.

That would be a great move, as the players are cheaper before they come to Europe, and could still make an impact in Slot’s squad, as Ngumoha has.

The L4 outfit could pick up the next Vinicius Junior or Alisson, for a nominal fee, rather than paying huge amounts when they prove themself in the biggest leagues.
