Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane clash revisited ahead of Burnley vs Liverpool

Liverpool’s visit to Turf Moor to face Burnley will spark memories of a famous clash between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in 2019.

Alexander Isak was spotted ahead of his first Liverpool training session, and the striker is expected to make his debut on Sunday.

The Reds can make it four wins from four in the Premier League if they emerge victorious, with Arne Slot’s side enjoying a strong start to the season.

Liverpool are expected to beat Burnley, but the home side have won their only Premier League fixture at Turf Moor this season so far.

Salah has scored just one goal in 10 games against Burnley and will be hoping to add to that tally on Sunday.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane come to blows at Turf Moor

Interestingly, when Liverpool travelled to Burnley in the 2019-20 season, they had also won their first three matches, with their last victory also coming over Arsenal at Anfield.

It was a routine win for the Reds, with goals from Mane and Roberto Firmino following Chris Wood’s own goal for a 3-0 victory at Turf Moor.

But the headlines were stolen by an incident involving Mane and Salah in the second half.

The Egyptian had picked up the ball on the right and dribbled inside, with his wing partner finding acres of space inside the box for a seemingly easy pass.

But Salah instead decided to ignore Mane and cut back inside, getting tackled before he could get his shot away.

The Senegal international was incensed. After being substituted moments later, the winger angrily gesticulated towards the bench and continued to fume once sat down, having to be held back by Joe Gomez and James Milner.

The discussions continued into the tunnel following the final whistle, and Firmino was captured on camera making a hilariously cheeky face to the camera as the two walked past the camera with frosty expressions.

Liverpool will hope to repeat forward troubles

Competition is inevitable when a team boasts two high-goal-scoring attackers.

Salah and Mane were wingers at the top of their games, and both were desperate to get their names on the score sheet every single week.

Liverpool will hope that, in Hugo Ekitike and Isak, they have bought players with the same mentality. But when that hunger boils over, arguments can emerge.

Slot’s job will be to prevent such incidents from happening this season, with the trip to Burnley set to give a taste of how the two strikers could play together.
