Alexander Isak spotted ahead of first ever Liverpool training session after £125m move

Alexander Isak is expected to take to the pitch for the first time as a Liverpool player on Sunday against Burnley.

Liverpool signed Isak from Newcastle United on transfer deadline day, after a Premier League-record £125million deal had been agreed.

The Reds had chased the Swede for much of the summer, with the striker always making his desire to leave clear to Newcastle.

Isak played just 18 minutes for Sweden on Monday, with him and the team receiving criticism for their part in a shock 2-0 loss to Kosovo.

Liverpool are expected to beat Burnley on Sunday, which would continue their perfect start to the Premier League season.

Alexander Isak arrives at Liverpool ahead of first training session

Hugo Ekitike is excited about the arrival of Isak, despite the potential risk to his position in Arne Slot’s starting XI.

The Frenchman has enjoyed a superb start to his Liverpool career, scoring three goals and providing an assist in just four appearances.

But Isak’s implementation into the team should see the striker moved away from the centre of the attack.

One of Ekitike or Cody Gakpo are expected to miss out, with the two set to fight it out against Burnley on Sunday.

Isak is set to be named on the bench after the 25-year-old missed the entirety of pre-season, and the forward has now been spotted before taking part in training for the first time in Liverpool colours.

The Reds took to social media on Wednesday to share pictures of Isak arriving at Melwood, before posting a picture of the striker shaking hands with lead physical performance coach Ruben Peeters.

Alexander Isak will have to fight for his position at Liverpool

Isak arrives with an unmatched reputation, having enjoyed a sensational campaign for Newcastle in 2024/25.

But Slot will not be willing to allow the Sweden international to waltz into the starting XI, especially given the form of Ekitike and Gakpo this season so far.

Like any Liverpool player, Isak must prove his ability for the Reds before he becomes a central figure in Slot’s attack, and that task begins from the forward’s very first first training session.
