‘Nonsense’ – Richard Keys cannot believe what he’s read about Alexander Isak and Liverpool

Alexander Isak’s British record move to Liverpool has caused significant anger in Newcastle after the forward went on strike to force the deal through.

Isak had three years remaining on his Newcastle contract heading into this summer, but did his best to push for a move to Liverpool, and was exiled from his squad as a result.

Liverpool completed the deal to sign Isak on deadline day, and he will link up with his new teammates once he returns from Sweden duty in the International break.

There has been plenty of criticism over Isak’s behaviour, particularly from Newcastle fans, but many have argued in favour of the player, given that he got his move in the end.

Richard Keys slams Nobby Solano over Alexander Isak claim

Those connected to Newcastle believe that Isak had a lot more to accomplish there, and could have stayed and become a legend like Alan Shearer.

Shearer is the Premier League’s all-time top scorer, and fellow Newcastle legend Nobby Solano has remarkably claimed that Isak could have surpassed his record for the Magpies.

“Alex could have had it all – even Shearer’s crown as the club’s record goalscorer,” Solano told The Chronicle.

However, broadcaster Richard Keys could not believe this claim, and pointed out that winning major silverware as a team is a superior accomplishment than individual goal records.

“I’ll tell you what’s shear madness – this view. Does Solano really believe chasing Shearer’s record is a better career goal than a bucket full of medals? Nonsense,” Keys posted on X in response to Solano on 7 September.

Alexander Isak can challenge for major silverware with Liverpool

Shearer’s spell at Newcastle was legendary because of his goals and the fact he was playing for his boyhood club, but he failed to win a single major trophy there.

The striker did win the Premier League with Blackburn, but merely surpassing Shearer’s total at Newcastle would not have been a major accomplishment for Isak.

Isak led Newcastle to the Carabao Cup last season, their first major trophy in over 50 years, but at Liverpool he can challenge for the Premier League and Champions League.

Liverpool are favourites to win the Premier League with Isak, and if he does lift the title, it would be a much bigger achievement than simply becoming Newcastle’s record goalscorer.
