Alexander Isak’s debut will have to wait – Early Liverpool predicted XI vs Burnley

Arne Slot has big decisions to make ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Burnley after the international break.

The Reds are the only side with a 100 per cent record in the Premier League this season, after Dominik Szoboszlai scored a goal of the season contender in a 1-0 victory against Arsenal.

Liverpool have added Alexander Isak to their ranks after the Swede signed on deadline day for £125million, and is awaiting his Reds debut once the international break has concluded.

Isak is low on fitness after missing Newcastle’s pre-season due to being on strike, and an unused substitute appearance against Slovenia suggests the trip to Burnley is too soon for the striker.

Liverpool could remain unchanged for trip to Burnley

There is a high chance that Liverpool will remain unchanged from the side that defeated Arsenal, as Slot looks to gain some continuity in his side after a hectic start.

That would see Szoboszlai start a third game in a row at right-back, a position in which he has thrived so far this season.

Isak is likely to start on the bench alongside fellow new signing Jeremie Frimpong, who has missed the wins against Newcastle and Arsenal with injury.

Florian Wirtz will look to end his poor run of form against the newly-promoted side, with the German improving significantly in the second half against the Gunners.

Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong shouldn’t be risked

Isak has faced a number of injury problems since arriving in the Premier League in 2022, and Slot will not want to see his new big-money centre-forward on the sidelines.

The Swede should not be risked so soon, and should be given reduced minutes as he returns to peak fitness ahead of a tough run between October and November.

Frimpong will likely also be treated with care ahead of his return, and may also miss the game at Turf Moor completely.

With games against Chelsea and Manchester United not far around the corner, Reds fans will gladly see their new striker sit out to prepare for a grand return against big six opponents.
