Arne Slot – all you need to know about Liverpool’s Premier League-winning manager
Arne Slot was a surprising choice to replace the legendary Jurgen Klopp, but he has already written himself into the history books.
Slot joined Liverpool in the summer of 2024, replacing Klopp after a nine-year stint at Anfield in which he won a collection of trophies.
Many expected the Reds to enter a transition period at Anfield after Klopp’s departure, but Slot exceeded all expectations as his side strolled to the Premier League title in his first season.
The Dutchman is already among the greats at Liverpool as a title-winning manager, and he is now aiming to build a dynasty at Anfield.

Arne Slot’s managerial history
Slot finished his playing career at PEC Zwolle, and became part of their youth coaching staff after his retirement, spending a year there before moving on.
SC Cambuur then moved to bring Slot in as an assistant to Henk De Jong in 2014, and remained after his departure in 2016.
October 2016 saw Slot become interim coach alongside Sipke Hulshoff, before departing for AZ Alkmaar in 2017 to again become an assistant.
It was not until 2019-20, the season in which Klopp won the Premier League, that Slot actually became a full-time head coach of AZ, and he narrowly missed out on the title on goal difference to Ajax.
The Dutchman was then sacked in December 2020 after negotiating with Feyenoord, whom he eventually joined within weeks of his departure from AZ.
Slot made history at Feyenoord as they reached the Europa Conference League final in 2022, but lost to Roma, but enjoyed another promising season as they reached the Europa League knockouts.

Tottenham then wanted Slot in 2023, but the Dutchman rejected their interest to remain at Feyenoord for one more year.
- Feyenoord won the Eredivisie in 2022-23.
- Slot won the Dutch Cup a year later.
His final year saw Feyenoord finish second, winning the Dutch Cup and again competing well in Europe, and he departed for Liverpool with four consecutive Dutch manager of the year awards to his name.

Arne Slot became instant hero at Liverpool
Succeeding a figure like Klopp was a seemingly impossible task, but Slot made it look easy as he seamlessly integrated into every aspect of the club.
Slot’s only senior signing in his first season was Federico Chiesa, but he built upon Klopp’s high-pressing style, while also implementing his own tactical ideas, and Liverpool strolled to the title with complete ease.
While there were disappointments for Liverpool in the cups and Champions League, it was a remarkable first season for Slot as he instantly became a hero, with fans also taking to his jovial character and personality very quickly.
Slot has since overseen Liverpool’s biggest summer of spending, with Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz arriving for record fees, and the future looks bright for the Dutchman.
