Hugo Ekitike could achieve something not done at Liverpool in eight years after Premier League announcement
Hugo Ekitike has had a lightning-fast start to his Liverpool career, and has now received recognition for his performances.
Ekitike scored on his debut in the Community Shield, before netting in his first two Premier League games against Bournemouth and Newcastle.
Striker Ekitike has joined for a huge fee from Eintracht Frankfurt, but may find his starting spot in jeopardy as Alexander Isak could usurp Ekitike upfront.
It may not be easy for Isak to slot straight into the Liverpool side given Ekitike’s performances, which could result in a historic achievement.

Hugo Ekitike nominated for Premier League Player of the Month
Ekitike has now been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award, and if he does win it, he could match a feat last accomplished by Sadio Mane.
The striker’s two goals in three games has placed him as one of the best players in the league so far, and teammate Dominik Szoboszlai has also been nominated.
Player | Club |
Hugo Ekitike | Liverpool |
Dominik Szoboszlai | Liverpool |
Jack Grealish | Everton |
Riccardo Calafiori | Arsenal |
Erling Haaland | Man City |
Antoine Semenyo | Bournemouth |
Marc Guehi | Crystal Palace |
Joao Pedro | Chelsea |
Ekitike, Joao Pedro and Jack Grealish are the only nominees who moved clubs in the summer, with the trio enjoying fast starts with their new teams.
If Ekitike was to beat the others to the award, he will join three others as the only Liverpool players to win the award in August.

Liverpool Premier League Player of the Month winners in August
Winning the Player of the Month award in August is significant, as it shows that they have had the best start to the season in the entire league.
Should Ekitike manage it, he will be the first player to achieve it in his first month at the club, and one of four who have managed it overall.
Liverpool legend Mane won the award in August 2017, eight years ago, and no Liverpool player has managed it in this month since.
Daniel Sturridge also won in August 2013 after a rapid start in the absence of Luis Suarez, while the only other August winner was Michael Owen in 1998.
All three players succeeded in the Premier League, and Ekitike is clearly off to an excellent start if he is in with a chance of matching their achievements.
