Beata Olsson’s first words as Liverpool Women player as official announcement made
Liverpool Women have signed Beata Olsson on transfer deadline day.
Liverpool lost Olivia Smith to Arsenal in a record £1million deal earlier in the summer, so they needed to get a new attacker through the door before the new season.
There has been significant turmoil behind the scenes, with Gareth Taylor finally taking the Liverpool Women’s job after months of uncertainty about the future of the role.
Liverpool have already brought in Sam Kerr, Kirsty Maclean, Rafaela Borggrafe and Lily Woodham this summer.

Beata Olsson speaks after Liverpool announce signing
Fenway Sports Group have been accused of neglecting Liverpool’s Women’s team in recent months, but it appears that they are trying to rectify that.
Bringing in Taylor is a solid move, and they have tried to make the right additions to take the side forward, and Olsson’s singing proves that.
The Swedish Under-23 international has notched nine goals in 15 appearances for Kristianstads DFF already this season, so she has a pedigree in front of goal.
After the transfer was confirmed, Olsson revealed her pride at signing for the Reds to the club’s official website, saying: “It means so much to me.
“This is such a historic football club and the best league in the world, and I think it’s a great step for me, and I’m so excited to be here.
“I think it’s going to be really cool, and I’ve always wanted to play in England, and to play for a club like Liverpool is just a dream.
“So, for me, this means the world, and I’m very excited to get started and to see what I can contribute.”

Liverpool Women need to have a better campaign
The Reds finished seventh in the Women’s Super League last season, a dismal campaign after a fourth-placed finish the season before.
They will hope to put the chaos of the last campaign behind them and move forward, and challenge for the top echelons of the WSL again.
- Liverpool Women finished seventh with 25 points
- Knocked out of the League Cup in the group stage
- Reached the FA Cup semi-finals before being knocked out by Chelsea
It has been over 10 years since they last won the division, with Matt Beard guiding them to back-to-back championships in 2013 and 2014.
The signing of Olsson is certainly an exciting one, and the club will hope that she can have a similar impact to Smith, as she is essentially replacing her in the squad, taking her number 11 shirt after her signing was announced.
Smith notched seven goals in 20 WSL matches and picked up the PFA Young Player of the Year award for the 2024/25 season in her only campaign with the club after joining from Sporting in Portugal.
