Mo Salah blasts Liverpool account over ‘disrespectful’ Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz claim
Mohamed Salah has taken to social media to defend Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz following the events of the summer transfer window.
Liverpool signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle United on deadline day, finally agreeing a £125million deal for the Swedish forward.
The striker’s arrival marked the second time the Reds broke the transfer record this summer, in what was a window of massive spending.
Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in June, in a deal that could rise to £116m if all add-ons are met.
The summer spending was offset by several key sales, including Darwin Nunez’s £56.6m move to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

Mohamed Salah calls out disrespectful post
Luis Diaz left Liverpool to join Bayern Munich in a deal worth around £65.5m, and Harvey Elliott, Jarell Quansah, Ben Doak, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Tyler Morton also left to earn the Reds significant funds.
The high number of departures left decision-makers at Anfield with almost free rein to spend at will, ultimately parting ways with almost £450m on six new players.
Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giovanni Leoni were added to the defensive core, whilst Hugo Ekitike completed a £69m move to join the attack.
Liverpool hoped to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the final hours of the window, but the move fell apart after the South London side could not sign a replacement.
Club – 2025/26 | Spent | Sold | Net spend |
Liverpool | £446.5m | £228.1m | £218.4m |
Arsenal | £267m | £10m | £257m |
Chelsea | £296.5m | £314.4m | £-17.9m |
Fans of the Reds have been, understandably, excited by the business, but Salah is keen to remind the Anfield faithful of the Premier League-winning squad of last season.
The Egyptian responded to a post on Wednesday 3 September, depicting Diaz and Nunez next to Wirtz and Isak with the caption: “Name a bigger upgrade in footballing history.”
Salah urged the fan to rethink the post, suggesting: “How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the PL champions?”
Liverpool fans must resist short memories
It can be easy for memories among Liverpool fans to be short, with the amount of transfer business that has taken place over the summer.
But whilst the circumstances Diaz, for example, left in were not attractive, the winger still contributed massively to the Reds’ second-ever Premier League title.
The Colombian scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in the league last season, and undoubtedly played a part in the goals that ultimately got Arne Slot’s side over the line.
Diaz, as well as the several other players who were involved last season, will be remembered for their contributions and enshrined in Liverpool history.
