Liverpool summer signings rated – 10/10 star guaranteed success, 4/10 won’t ever play

Liverpool welcomed seven new signings to Anfield this summer, in what was a record-smashing transfer window by every account.

The Reds broke the record for the most money spent by a single club in a single window, ultimately spending around £419million.

Liverpool signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle United on deadline day to cap off the window, with the striker’s £125m arrival breaking the Premier League transfer record.

With the Swede’s arrival on Merseyside finally sealed, Liverpool News rates each and every summer signing out of 10.

Alexander Isak leads host of incredible attacking arrivals

Isak is expected to go straight into Liverpool’s strongest XI, with the striker establishing himself among Europe’s best forwards last season.

The Swede scored 27 goals and provided six assists across all competitions for Newcastle, and is expected to play through the middle for Arne Slot.

Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the summer, and the midfielder is expected to form a deadly partnership with Isak.

Liverpool’s attacking signings

Wirtz, 22, has ripped up the Bundesliga over the past two seasons, amassing 46 direct goal contributions in 63 appearances.

And he is not the only signing to have arrived from Germany, with Hugo Ekitike, who scored 15 goals and provided eight assists last season in Bundesliga, signing to complete Liverpool’s attacking reinforcements.

All three players are set to spend their prime years at Anfield, with Slot’s side to benefit massively.

Question marks remain over defensive reinforcements

Liverpool signed Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth early in the summer, with the Hungary international coming off the back of a hugely impressive season for the Cherries.

He is expected to start in place of Andy Robertson, and has already started his career at Anfield in strong fashion.

Jeremie Frimpong arrived from Bayer Leverkusen and will accompany on him on the other side of the pitch, but the right-back will take some adapting.

The 24-year-old prefers to overlap, compared to the inverting nature of the now-departed Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Frimpong thrived with the space afforded by the Bundesliga, but he is still to be tested against the counter-attacking nature of many of the teams Liverpool will face.

Giovanni Leoni was the other outfield arrival, but at just 18, the defender is not expected to play a huge role in the Premier League this season.

By nature, that raises the question over his arrival – with Liverpool’s failure to sign Marc Guehi leaving Slot lacking in defensive depth ready to step in should Ibrahima Konate or Virgil van Dijk be injured.

Freddie Woodman also arrived on a free transfer this summer, but is expected to feature as a third goalkeeper behind Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili.
