Marc Guehi poses in Liverpool strip amid Crystal Palace transfer drama
Liverpool’s late move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi fell through at the last minute, despite a deal being agreed.
Guehi even underwent a medical to sign for Liverpool before Crystal Palace pulled the plug at the last second, as they could not find a replacement.
This meant that Liverpool are now short at the back, particularly given that Ibrahima Konate came off injured against Arsenal.
Losing Guehi is a blow for Arne Slot, but it is also gutting for the player given how far advanced the move was, and some remarkable details have now emerged.

Palace’s failure to complete a deadline-day deal for Brighton’s Igor Julio meant that they had no replacement for Guehi, and Oliver Glasner refused to sanction the sale.
This last-minute cancellation came after Liverpool agreed a £35million deal to sign Guehi from Palace.

The deal was so far along that Guehi had completed a medical, and had even done his media work to prepare for the announcement.
It has now emerged that Guehi even did a photoshoot in Liverpool training gear, and had made a farewell video for his Crystal Palace exit, but will now return to Selhurst Park.

Liverpool could return for Marc Guehi
The January transfer window could see Liverpool pursue Guehi again if they are still short in defence, and they could even land the defender at a lower price given his contract situation.
Guehi is in the final year of his deal, and it appears unlikely that he will sign fresh terms at Palace. This could mean Liverpool get him at a cut-price in January, or on a free next summer.
A deal for Guehi makes a lot of sense as the long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk, as a defender who has excelled at a high level with Palace and England, and who is still young enough to have his best years ahead of him.
Liverpool will have to make good use out of Giovanni Leoni until Guehi arrives, and Slot will hope that the young centre-back does not need too much time to adapt.
