Alexander Isak to jet out of UK right away after Liverpool transfer announcement

Liverpool are set to finally complete the long-awaited signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

On Sunday night, Liverpool agreed a fee to sign Isak, with the striker finally getting the move he has been demanding all summer.

The Swede has missed the entirety of pre-season but will be expected to make his debut for the Reds following the international break.

Liverpool also signed Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt earlier this summer, and it remains to be seen how Arne Slot fits both players into the starting line-up.

A defender is also on the wish list for transfer deadline day, with Liverpool attempting to complete a move for Marc Guehi.

Alexander Isak to join up with Sweden camp after Liverpool move

Liverpool will pay £125million for Isak, despite Newcastle previously demanding £150m earlier in the summer.

The striker is currently undergoing a medical ahead of completing the deal that will see him join up with Slot’s squad.

His signing will then be confirmed by Liverpool, marking the end of a summer-long pursuit.

Sky Sports reported on Monday that Isak will then join up with the Sweden national team later today.

Jon Dahl Tomasson confirmed the news, explaining: “I spoke to Alex yesterday and this morning. We expect him here today. He is extremely professional and has a good mentality.”

Sweden will play Slovenia on Friday, 5 September, before travelling to play Kosovo on 8 September, with Liverpool fans likely to be keeping a keen eye on their new star man’s first minutes this season.

Alexander Isak is a statement signing for Liverpool

Liverpool have already enjoyed a sensational summer window, breaking their transfer record once to bring in Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for over £100m.

But the signing of Isak will smash that record once again and will send a huge statement of intent throughout the Premier League.

The striker has established himself among the best strikers in world football over the last couple of seasons and is expected to thrive in Slot’s system.

Questions will be asked over how Ekitike and Isak fit in together, but that is not at all a bad problem for Liverpool to have.
