Liverpool fans will be buzzing with late Premier League decision ahead of Arsenal clash

Liverpool play host to Arsenal on Sunday, with a late change made as a result of a decision made in Chelsea’s victory over Fulham.

Given the fact that deadline day is rapidly approaching, all eyes will be on Alexander Isak’s potential move to Liverpool, though before that, the Reds have other priorities.

John Brooks appointed as new VAR after Fulham disallowed goal

Liverpool are no strangers to the controversy that comes with VAR in the Premier League, and anyone who was watching the Chelsea clash with Fulham will have been made even more aware of it.

Teenage starlet Josh King thought he had given Fulham the lead, only for the goal to be denied by Michael Salisbury on VAR, causing fury across social media.

As a result, Alex Crook has since reported via X that Salisbury has been replaced by John Brooks for the Anfield clash, having originally been allocated as the VAR operator.

Liverpool’s start to the season.

It wasn’t the only contentious decision in the game, with Chelsea also awarded a penalty for handball, just seconds after Joao Pedro appeared to handle it in the build-up.

Liverpool will be looking to maintain their winning run against Arsenal, and will be hoping that VAR doesn’t get in the way of that, though they will be pleased that Salisbury is no longer in charge.

Liverpool have had their fair share of VAR howlers

Despite VAR having been in operation for several seasons now, it still feels as though it is in a trial period, and that is entirely down to the lack of clarity over decisions.

Liverpool supporters will immediately be drawn back to Luis Diaz‘s disallowed goal against Tottenham, which occurred as a result of the lack of competency in the VAR room.

Sunday’s clash with Arsenal is a huge one, despite how early it is into the season, and it cannot be decided by yet another refereeing howler.

With that said, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see yet another moment of controversy.
