Gary Neville said Liverpool star did something ‘Cristiano Ronaldo-like’ vs Arsenal

Liverpool secured a huge three points at home to Arsenal, courtesy of a moment of pure magic.

Liverpool are among the favourites to win the Premier League title again this season, though encounters like this are going to play a massive role in whether or not they can achieve that.

Both sides were unbeaten heading into the clash, off the back of Liverpool’s 3 -2 victory against Newcastle last time out.

As expected, it was a cagey affair at Anfield, decided by a moment of sheer quality that left Gary Neville gushing with amazement in the 1-0 win.

Dominik Szoboszlai steals the show at Anfield with magical free-kick

Given the quality between the two sides, it was always going to take something special to sway the game in favour of either Liverpool or Arsenal.

Fortunately, on this occasion, it benefited Liverpool, and it was nothing but magic from Dominik Szoboszlai in the latter stages of the game.

32 yards from goal, the Reds were awarded a free-kick, and the Hungary international somehow found the back of the net, striking the near post on its way in.

Neville, when commenting via Sky Sports Main Event, said: “He was my man of the match before that strike – he’s been outstanding and he has no right to score from there.

“The Arsenal goalkeeper can’t believe it.

“This is special. The whip, the dop, the power and pace – it’s got everything. It’s brilliant. Cristiano Ronaldo-like.”

Via Fotmob, his strike had an XG of just 0.03, transformed into an xGOT of 0.25, showcasing just how impressive the free-kick truly was from a numbers point of view.

Liverpool take one huge step towards retaining Premier League title, even if it is August

Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal is huge, and there is no way of shaping it otherwise.

Regardless of how early into the season it is, to secure three points against a perceived title rival is massive, not just for forming a gap at the top of the table, but also for morale.

Mohamed Salah usually takes the limelight on occasions like this, but Sunday’s clash at Arsenal showcased the fact that the Reds have a whole host of players capable of coming up with something from nothing.

A huge win for Liverpool and Arne Slot, and a common blow to the Gunners.
