Liverpool ready to smash Premier League transfer record within hours
Liverpool could be about to smash the Premier League transfer record imminently as Monday’s transfer deadline rapidly approaches.
Arne Slot’s side have made a perfect start to the new campaign, but there is still a desire to add to their all-conquering squad in the final stages of the window.
Liverpool’s signing of Florian Wirtz for £116million has already broken the Premier League’s transfer record once this summer, but their spending could yet reach another level altogether.
The Anfield outfit are desperate to defend their crown this term, and that could see them surpass a record that they broke themselves just a matter of months ago.

Liverpool ready £130m Alexander Isak bid
Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak has arguably been the major transfer story in English football over the last few weeks, as the Merseysiders are determined to add the Swede to their ranks before the deadline.
The reigning champions have already seen a bid of £110m knocked back by Newcastle, who are doing everything they can to ensure that their valuation of the striker is met, despite his refusal to play for Eddie Howe’s side in the meantime.
Player | Transfer | Fee |
Florian Wirtz | Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool | £116m |
Enzo Fernandez | Benfica to Chelsea | £104m |
Jack Grealish | Aston Villa to Manchester City | £100m |
Declan Rice | West Ham to Arsenal | £100m |
Moises Caicedo | Brighton to Chelsea | £100m |
The Reds have been plotting their next move with time rapidly running out to secure an agreement, and they are now readying a fresh bid of £130m, according to The Telegraph.
Liverpool are thought to have taken a step forward in their pursuit over the last 24 hours, and the new bid is expected over the weekend.
It is understood that potential bonuses and add-ons could raise the final figure even higher, and maybe even up towards the Magpies’ £150m valuation of their star man.
Isak has publicly accused Newcastle of breaking previous promises regarding a potential departure, and their officials are believed to have made an attempt to reconcile with the 25-year-old at his house earlier this week.

Alexander Isak money should be saved for defensive upgrades
Liverpool’s desire to pursue the best in Isak is admirable, but after adding Hugo Ekitike to their ranks earlier in the summer, it could certainly be argued that they don’t really need him.
Instead, the money could be spent on shoring up a defence that has looked surprisingly shaky so far, despite being so imperious in 2024/25.
- Konate’s contract is due to expire at the end of the current campaign
- Real Madrid have shown an interest in signing him this summer
- Konate is believed to want a sizeable wage hike to pen a new deal
Slot’s men have shipped four goals from their opening two league games, and the pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate is showing signs of possible trouble.
With Konate’s future hugely uncertain and the skipper now 34, it could make long-term sense for Liverpool to splash the Isak cash on reinforcements at the heart of their backline.
Beyond the starting pair, there is only really the injury prone Joe Gomez and the inexperienced Giovanni Leoni who are capable of filling in.
As a result, the acquisition of another young, commanding centre-back could be a better use of resources.
