Liverpool transfer state of play: Done deals and what to expect before window shuts

Liverpool have splashed the cash over the transfer window as they look to defend their Premier League title.

Having won both of their opening games in dramatic fashion, Liverpool’s signings have had a big impact on their season so far.

However, as the Alexander Isak saga rumbles on, it is unclear if Arne Slot will make any more additions to his side before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Who have Liverpool sold and bought so far this summer?

Liverpool have made seven new signings so far in the window, with Liverpool shopping heavily in the Bundesliga.

Hugo Ekitike has been the star of the show, scoring three goals in all competitions after Liverpool paid £78million to sign him from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Jeremie Frimpong scored in the Community Shield and was involved in the opening-game win over Brentford before missing Liverpool’s dramatic 3-2 win over Newcastle United due to injury.

Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez are still finding their feet a little, while young centre-back Giovanni Leoni will be eased into the squad with caution.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure to Real Madrid was the big news earlier in the summer, although Frimpong’s arrival has squashed any worries about Liverpool’s right-back position.

As the window progressed, Liverpool made plenty of changes, most notably selling Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for over £65m.

The sale of Darwin Nunez has also given Liverpool a healthy chuck of funds, which they have used to reinvest in the squad, following the Uruguayan’s move to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool sold young centre-back Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen in another good bit of business, recouping £35m for the academy graduate.

Finally, Liverpool have sold some of their squad players well, with the outgoings of Caoimhin Kelleher, Ben Doak, Tyler Morton and Nat Philipps raising over £40m for the club.

What will Liverpool do before 1 September transfer deadline?

Liverpool have had two players consistently linked with a switch to Anfield throughout the window, and time is running out for the Reds to get deals done.

Alexander Isak has been the headline of the transfer window, as his future at Newcastle looks more uncertain by the minute.

As it stands, Isak is still 100 per cent focused on joining Liverpool, although Newcastle reportedly need to secure replacements first before they can allow the Swede to leave the club.

With just four days remaining, it looks like the conclusion of the Isak deal will only be found out at the last minute.

The other deal Liverpool have been keen on all summer is the signing of Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

With his contract set to expire next summer, it is unclear whether Palace will allow Guehi to make the move to Merseyside this season, or leave him waiting until next year.
