Liverpool star who Jamie Carragher loves could leave before transfer deadline day, ‘one to watch’

Liverpool have had a strong summer where they have balanced big money signings with player sales.

Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz have arrived for big money and have impressed in the Reds’ opening two Premier League games.

Equally, Arne Slot has been keen not to abandon their youth, with Rio Ngumoha given plenty of opportunities to impress.

However, the Dutchman could let one key player, who has been at Anfield since he was 16, leave in the coming weeks.

Harvey Elliott could leave Liverpool before transfer deadline day

Harvey Elliott came off the bench in the 96th minute at St James’ Park as Liverpool scored a last-gasp winner to beat Newcastle 3-2.

Elliott has been constantly linked with an exit this summer, though nothing concrete has managed to materialise.

The attacker has been a bit-part player for the Reds over the last two seasons, and he is interested in playing regular football elsewhere.

Though interest appears to have quietened down, according to The Athletic, Elliott is “one to watch” over the coming days.

There remains interest from RB Leipzig, and Premier League clubs have also joined the Germans in the race.

However, given that Liverpool do not have a plethora of players in Elliott’s position, it is not certain he will go.

Jamie Carragher tipped Harvey Elliott to replace Mohamed Salah

In January 2022, Elliott broke into Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side and impressed in the Reds’ club competitions.

His fine form prompted Carragher to make an outlandish claim that Elliott could become Liverpool‘s next Mohamed Salah.

In February 2022, Carragher said: “You have someone really special here, maybe in terms of Mo Salah’s replacement, if that’s the position he plays in.

“Mo Salah is getting to 30 now, and we’re all desperate for him to sign a contract, but whenever Mo Salah goes, maybe you’ve got your ready-made replacement.

“Maybe not the same type of player, but a guy that plays on the right and comes in on that left foot.”
