Liverpool left with no option after latest crushing Alexander Isak news from Newcastle
Liverpool find themselves in a difficult situation going into the final week of the transfer window.
The Reds have enjoyed a busy summer with several incomings and outgoings, including record-signing Florian Wirtz, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal that could surpass £100million.
But one story has raged on throughout the summer and is still yet to reach a conclusion – that of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
Decision-makers at Anfield have been hoping to sign the 25-year-old, who is demanding a departure from St James’ Park.
But Newcastle are yet to indicate their willingness to open negotiations for Isak, and want to finalise deals for replacements before considering the sale.

Liverpool find themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place
Even Virgil van Dijk has spoken of Liverpool’s need to sign another striker before the transfer window closes.
The centre-back spoke of the Reds’ need for a new forward following the loss to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield, with many viewing it as a clear reference to Isak.
Liverpool signed Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt earlier in the summer, but the departures of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have left Arne Slot’s squad looking light in attack.
And decision-makers at Anfield have found themselves stuck in a difficult position.

Craig Hope reported on 26 August that Isak remains steadfast in his desire to secure a move to Liverpool, despite Newcastle holding a meeting with the striker in an attempt to change his mind.
The Swede appears to remain convinced that the Magpies will secure the replacements required to allow the switch to happen, but time is running out.
Should Liverpool continue to wait for Newcastle, they risk leaving themselves short for the season with less than one week remaining in the window.
But should they commit to parting with big money elsewhere, the Isak deal could become financially unattainable, even if it does become possible before the window closes.
Liverpool have to take uncomfortable Alexander Isak decision
Such has been Isak’s commitment to securing his dream move this summer, he already feels like a Liverpool player.
And that is why the decision the Reds must take will feel like such a blow.
The priority, however, should always remain with Slot’s squad, with the Dutchman aiming to bring consecutive Premier League titles to Anfield.
To have a chance of achieving that, Liverpool need a strengthened front-line.
