Where Rio Ngumoha ranks among Liverpool’s youngest ever Premier League scorers after Newcastle winner

Liverpool secured a dramatic 3-2 victory away at Newcastle United in a fiery encounter, and they have youngster Rio Ngumoha to thank.

The Reds went 2-0 up and had a man advantage as Anthony Gordon was sent off after a challenge on Virgil van Dijk, but this quickly evaporated as Newcastle fought back to equalise.

However, Liverpool came away from this challenging game with all three points, as Ngumoha came off the bench to score a stunning last-minute winner, powering the ball home after an excellent counter-attack.

Ngumoha caught the eye during pre-season, and this was a moment he will never forget, as the winger has now written himself into Anfield history.

Rio Ngumoha becomes Liverpool’s youngest-ever scorer

With this goal against Newcastle, Ngumoha has now become one of the youngest scorers in Premier League history, only behind James Vaughan, James Milner and Wayne Rooney.

At 16 years and 361 days at the time of scoring, Ngumoha has now become Liverpool’s youngest-ever goalscorer in any competition, in a truly remarkable feat.

Ngumoha has overtaken Ballon d’Or winner Michael Owen, as well as Premier League icon Raheem Sterling among others, to become the first 16-year-old to score for Liverpool in the competition.

With the scores level, Ngumoha showed incredible composure to finish after an excellent dummy from Dominik Szoboszlai, to secure the win in a hostile atmosphere, and this moment will be written into the record books.

Arne Slot to use Rio Ngumoha already

Arne Slot had a thin bench at Newcastle, and this resulted in Ngumoha coming on, but it took bravery from the Liverpool manager to throw the youngster on in such a hostile and difficult match.

Liverpool have been linked with wingers, including Rodrygo, following the Anfield departure of Luis Diaz, but it now appears that Ngumoha will be trusted to step up as the Colombian’s replacement.

The teenager justified his selection with his goal, and Liverpool are unlikely to face more physically oppressive and hostile matches this season, meaning that Ngumoha is likely to be trusted to change games off the bench more often over the course of the campaign.
