Liverpool can move one step closer to making top-flight history against Newcastle United

Arne Slot’s first season in charge of Liverpool has been record-breaking as he guided them to the 2024/25 Premier League title.

The Reds secured their 20th English top-flight title, and it was the first time in the club’s history that they scored in every one of their away games across a single league campaign.

Liverpool have continued to make history in the transfer window, breaking their transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial fee of £100 million.

They now face off against Newcastle in their second Premier League game of the season, with Slot having the perfect opportunity to break another record.

Liverpool can equal their goalscoring record set in 2019 vs Newcastle

Liverpool and Newcastle have had many battles off the pitch this summer, which started with the transfer of Hugo Ekitike.

Liverpool then continued to target Alexander Isak, and a move could still materialise before the end of the transfer window.

The Reds could again put their opponents to the sword on 25 August, as they can equal the record for their longest run of consecutive top-flight games scored in.

This was previously set by Jurgen Klopp, whose team scored in all 36 games between March 2019 and February 2020, which helped them win the league in 2020.

Achievements by Arne Slot and Liverpool:

The Reds have netted 90 goals in 39 Premier League games under Slot, an average of 2.3 per game that is the best ratio by any Reds manager in the top-flight.

Liverpool look in good stead to continue their fine goalscoring record in their visit to St James’ Park, with the Reds boasting a fine record against the Geordies.

Liverpool have lost just one of their last ten against Newcastle

Liverpool’s most recent test against Newcastle came in the 2-1 defeat in the Carabao Cup final in March.

Slot will be keen to set the record straight following the defeat, and they are in a good position to do so.

His opponents drew their opening game 0-0 and looked lifeless in attack, having missed out on a number of targets this summer.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Slot equal another record and continue Liverpool’s strong start to the Premier League against Newcastle.
