Jamie Carragher disagrees with what Thierry Henry’s just said about Alexander Isak and Liverpool
Jamie Carragher has a different stance to Thierry Henry when it comes to Alexander Isak’s proposed move to Liverpool.
One of the more high-profile transfer sagas in recent years will have its conclusion in around a week’s time when the transfer window slams shut on September 1.
Isak has made his stance clear that he doesn’t want to play for Newcastle, with the Swedish international not being a part of their matchday squad against Aston Villa on the opening day and now against Liverpool on Monday.
Liverpool have yet to make an improved bid on their initial offer that was swiftly rejected by the Magpies as Isak’s future remains up in the air.

Jamie Carragher disagrees with Thierry Henry regarding Alexander Isak transfer
Carragher has made his feelings clear that Liverpool do not need to splash the enormous amount of money it would take to bring Isak to Anfield.
With Hugo Ekitike having an impressive start to life as a Liverpool player, the need for Isak appears to be less than another centre-back, per say, especially when considering the Reds’ defensive issues in pre-season and against Bournemouth.
- It is not a given that Isak would immediately displace Ekitike from the starting XI
- The Frenchman followed up his goal at Wembley in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace with a cool finish to open his Premier League account against Bournemouth
Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Newcastle, Carragher disagreed with Henry’s stance on the Isak deal.
“For me, I can’t believe for Liverpool it’s just Isak or no one, but it does feel like the closer we are getting to the end of the window,” Carragher said.
“Thierry’s just said it’s almost like a must for Liverpool to sign Isak. I’ve never been of that opinion, so I’m one of the few Liverpool fans that are not all in on it has to be Isak.
“I don’t think he’s as durable as maybe a Mo Salah. Actually, in the last three seasons, he’s missed 36 games – it’s almost a season.”

Jamie Carragher thinks Newcastle should sell Alexander Isak
Despite Carragher’s reservations regarding the move, he feels Newcastle should sell their talisman due to the ongoing hassle he is causing them.
The former England international likened the situation to the Fernando Torres one when he was at the club, and claimed that a sale of Isak would be the best outcome for everyone involved.
“Newcastle as a club are delighted to be in the Champions League. Isak is a player who wants to win the Champions League,” Carragher added.
“When we were going for the Champions League at Liverpool, we had some world-class players. As soon as our level dropped, people like Fernando Torres, Javier Mascherano and Xabi Alonso wanted to leave, because there’s too much of a gap between where they are as players and where the club are.
Carragher is spot on when it comes to Newcastle getting rid of Isak.
For all the suggestions that they simply let Isak rot in the reserves, this would not be in their best interest to progress as a club because of the hefty fee they would receive for him.
Whilst some Liverpool fans will be far from impressed with the player’s conduct as he attempts to push the move through, it is an unfortunate reality of the modern game.
