Andy Gray is spot on amid Newcastle fury over Alexander Isak to Liverpool

Newcastle have been left livid with Liverpool’s pursuit of striker Alexander Isak.

Liverpool failed with a £110million bid earlier this month, but have not returned with a second offer for Isak.

Isak made his intentions to join Liverpool clear by refusing to play for the club ever again, and a statement that slammed the Magpies.

However, there has been no movement on a potential transfer to Arne Slot‘s side right now.

Newcastle fury over Liverpool and Alexander Isak is hypocritical

Liverpool have done nothing wrong in their pursuit of Isak, despite Magpies supporters insisting that they have.

Former Everton striker Andy Gray believes they do not have a leg to stand on, though, especially considering the way that they have pursued Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.

Speaking on BeIN Sports on 23 August, Richard Keys asked Gray about the situation, saying: “Do you have sympathy for Newcastle that Liverpool have turned Isak’s head? This is a two-part question, so be careful how you answer.”

Gray replied, saying: “Do I have sympathy for Newcastle, only in the respect that big clubs can do that to any player they want.”

Keys fired back, saying: “So, do you have sympathy for Brentford that Newcastle have turned Wissa’s head?”

Gray defended the Reds, saying:  “There you go, it is the same thing, isn’t it, so Newcastle fans don’t really have anything to argue about, if their team are doing something to Wissa, that somebody is doing to one of their players, then what is the difference?”

He is right, last season’s Premier League winners have nothing to apologise for, especially as they are doing the same with Wissa.

Will Liverpool sign Isak this summer?

Right now, a move to Merseyside for Isak seems unlikely.

The L4 outfit are not anywhere near the valuation that the North East outfit is looking for and have not returned with a new bid.

Isak may have done his part, but with Newcastle not sorting a replacement and only having just over a week to do so, it does not bode well for his chances of a move to Anfield.

Obviously, things can change quickly in the transfer market, though, so this may be one that goes right down to the wire.

It would be a major coup for the champions if they could secure arguably the best striker in world football, but it seems like a very hard transfer to pull off at the moment.

They may have to revisit a potential deal in the winter transfer window, with Isak maybe having to reintegrate himself with Eddie Howe’s side despite all of his actions to try and force a move away.
