Liverpool fans can forget about Luis Diaz as Arne Slot green lights push for ‘excellent’ upgrade
Arne Slot has given the go-ahead for a transfer pursuit that could quickly cause Liverpool fans to forget about Luis Diaz.
The Colombian became a crucial part of the squad at Anfield over the last two seasons, and his improvement culminated in a career-best season of 18 Premier League involvements last term.
Diaz was a hugely underrated player for Liverpool, and his departure to join Bayern Munich earlier in the summer has left a big hole to be filled on the left flank.
However, the Reds are now closing in on a player who would could make them forget all about the former Porto man, and Slot has already sanctioned the move.

Rodrygo to be a clear upgrade on Luis Diaz for Liverpool
Liverpool have been linked with Bradley Barcola as a possible replacement for Diaz, but they now have their sights fixed firmly on a player who has proven himself to be a world-class talent across several seasons.
Liverpool were linked with a move for Rodrygo earlier in the summer, but they now appear ready to take their interest to the next stage.
Arne Slot is understood to have given the go-ahead to a move for the Real Madrid star, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Dutchman has an exciting vision of using the 24-year-old as part of a front four alongside the trio of Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike.
Rodrygo is a player who has been linked with a move to the Premier League all summer, and Alan Shearer suggested to FourFourTwo back in May that he is an “excellent” player who would be a good fit for English football.
He outperformed Diaz in several metrics last season, and although the Colombian had a greater end product, you would expect Rodrygo’s numbers to fly in an attack as threatening as Liverpool’s.

Reds have great opportunity to land Rodrygo
Liverpool’s pursuit of Rodrygo had seemed to have faded somewhat in recent weeks, but he is now back as a viable option for them once again.
- Rodrygo notched 24 goal involvements for Real Madrid last season
- He totalled 44 goal contributions across the two campaigns before that
- He already has 33 senior caps for Brazil at the age of 24
They look set to go toe to toe with Manchester City for the wideman’s signature, as a move to the Premier League now appears to growing increasingly likely as time slowly ticks down before the deadline.
Real Madrid’s asking price is understood to have slipped from around the £86million mark, down to a figure of around £60-70m.
While that remains a sizeable figure, it has certainly left the door ajar for a deal to be done, and Liverpool would be silly if they didn’t take the opportunity that is being presented to them.
