Wayne Rooney: ‘Newcastle players will want Alexander Isak out of St James’ Park’ amid Liverpool developments

Wayne Rooney has been scathing in his opinion of Alexander Isak amid links to Liverpool.

Scrutiny has surrounded Isak, 25, after his refusal to play for Newcastle as he looks to force through a move to Anfield before the 1 September deadline.

Newcastle have already rejected a £110million offer from Liverpool for the Sweden international, with a second bid yet to be tabled by Arne Slot and Co.

Isak has since taken to social media to claim of broken promises at St James’ Park, adding further fuel to the fire of an ever more dramatic transfer saga.

In the middle of all this, Rooney has spoken out against the Magpies’ number 14 to share how he believes his teammates will feel in the north east.

Rooney fumes at Isak antics at Newcastle

There is no getting away from the fact that Isak has acted in a fashion which many football fans are against and believe is wrong.

This has also been echoed by Eddie Howe, who is unsure of the situation himself, referring back to the Swede’s contract in NE1.

As a result, the feeling around the forward has grown increasingly negative, especially after he missed the Magpies’ opening day clash against Aston Villa due to being on strike.

It is this exact reason why Rooney believes his Newcastle teammates will be glad to see the back of Isak after such a turbulent summer.

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show (21 August), the ex-Everton man shared his frustration surrounding the Liverpool target.

He said: “If I’m a Newcastle player, I don’t want him back. Players leave football clubs, and that happens all the time, but there’s a way to go about it, and you can’t go on strike.

“He’s deserted them, and he doesn’t want to be there. He doesn’t want to be your teammate. In terms of Isak’s teammates, I wouldn’t want him back.”

Isak behaviour must raise questions at Liverpool

There is no getting away from the fact that the former Real Sociedad man is one of, if not the best, strikers in the Premier League right now.

This was showcased against the Reds in the Carabao Cup final as an Isak-inspired Newcastle secured the silverware and subjected Slot and Co. to defeat.

As impressive as the forward has been, his behaviour throughout this window has been nothing short of childish, regardless of any “promises” that have been broken.

These antics could prove to be the perfect opportunity to hand Hugo Ekitike a regular starting role on Merseyside as opposed to bringing in yet another £100m+ man this summer.
