Liverpool must repeat Manchester City masterstroke with Harvey Elliott transfer agreement
Liverpool face a battle if they are to keep hold of Harvey Elliott this summer.
Interest in the 22-year-old has peaked after indications that he would be willing to leave the Reds.
On top of this, Elliott impressed for England in the Under 21s European Championships, as he lifted the trophy for a second time.
Now, with days left of the transfer window, the future of the attacking midfielder has become clearer.

Liverpool set to allow Harvey Elliott to leave
Multiple clubs have been linked with Elliott this summer, including RB Leipzig.
Now, Ben Jacobs has reported via X on 21 August that Liverpool will reluctantly sanction a sale for the 22-year-old.
This is due to Elliott’s desire for first-team football, which he has been unable to secure consistently at the Reds.
Leipzig are still working on a deal. However, nothing has been agreed yet.
- Elliott moved to Liverpool in 2019 from Fulham
- The 22-year-old has since made nearly 150 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 15 times
- The attacking midfielder looks set to leave the Reds over the coming days
However, if Liverpool are to sell Elliott, they should look to add a buy-back clause in the contract.
The Englishman clearly has potential and could become one of the best players in the Bundesliga if this is realised.
On top of this, this English origin could mean that Elliott is well sought after if he succeeds at RB Leipzig.
Manchester City have shown in recent years how important a buy-back clause can be. Now, Liverpool must repeat this masterstroke.
Manchester City have utilised a buy-back clause multiple times
Much of Man City’s recent success has been built on their successful business in the transfer market, and adding buy-back clauses into their sales has been key to this.
This summer alone, City re-signed James Trafford from Burnley after activating this option.
Man City may also end up regretting not using Liam Delap’s buy-back clause when he was at Ipswich Town, with the striker now at Chelsea.
However, the former Premier League champions also have plenty still in play and could one day re-sign stars such as Gavin Bazunu or Sam Edozie.
