Arne Slot only has one solution available as Liverpool handed Jeremie Frimpong problem

Liverpool will travel to Newcastle in a tricky away game in their next fixture, and they are already facing several injury issues.

Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley have both missed most of pre-season and were absent from Liverpool’s victory over Bournemouth.

Debutant Jeremie Frimpong started against Bournemouth before being substituted in the 59th minute, to the detriment of fans who owned him in Fantasy Premier League.

It has now emerged that Frimpong is an injury doubt for the Newcastle trip, and this is far from ideal for Liverpool.

Liverpool must play Curtis Jones at right-back against Newcastle

If Frimpong is out injured, then Arne Slot will be out of natural solutions with Bradley and Gomez also missing, with all three defenders potentially absent.

This only leaves one solution, and it is a makeshift one, as Curtis Jones will be forced to move to right-back if Frimpong cannot make the clash.

Jones started on the bench at Bournemouth before coming on as a late substitute, and with the England international falling down the midfield pecking order, this could be his opportunity to start.

The 24-year-old filled in at right-back at times last season when Trent Alexander-Arnold was absent, in a 1-0 Merseyside Derby victory over Everton and a 3-2 defeat to Fulham.

While this is far from ideal, Slot has no other solution with his other natural right-backs out, and this does show that there is a potential issue in the Liverpool squad.

Liverpool have questionable depth at right-back

Both Frimpong and Bradley certainly have the quality to start for Liverpool, although they both bring different skillsets and qualities to the right-back role.

However, the injury records of both, and the potential for Liverpool to suffer cluster injuries in the position, perhaps means they are slightly light at right-back.

Liverpool face a tough dilemma, though, as signing a third-choice right-back with the quality to step in when needed is a tricky ask in terms of squad building, but it would also be a risk to potentially go the whole season with Frimpong and Bradley suffering injury issues.
