Liverpool due to cash in on sell-on clause for player they sold 11 years ago

Liverpool look set to land a surprise payout before the summer window ends.

The Reds have been hugely active in the transfer market, having most recently brought Giovanni Leoni to Liverpool from Parma.

This has taken the total spent at Anfield above £300million, having also completed big-money moves for Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike.

With that in mind, Arne Slot could be set to see his transfer kitty grow larger once more, with an 11-year investment potentially set to come good.

Liverpool to take cut of EFL transfer

It is little secret that Liverpool wants to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United before the window comes to an end on 1 September.

As controversy continues to surround that saga, the Reds are remaining patient in the hope of making yet another huge signing this summer.

Having already parted ways with Darwin Nunez to Al Hilal, any incoming funds could prove to be vital in the race to sign the Sweden international.

As a result, the Reds will be glad to pick up a fee from a player with whom they unsurprisingly parted ways all the way back in 2014.

That man is Lewis Travis, who left Merseyside for Blackburn Rovers 11 years ago before going on to be a regular at Ewood Park in the Championship.

Although many Liverpool fans may have forgotten his ties to Merseyside, Alan Nixon has reported via Patreon (17 August) that the L4 club are set to land a payoff from a potentially imminent transfer.

The 27-year-old could soon join Derby County, but Blackburn are awaiting a £3million agreement after the Rams’ bid only reached £1.5m.

This comes as Blackburn looks set to miss out on a chunk of the midfielder’s fee as the Anfield club maintains a sell-on percentage for the midfielder.

Travis to Derby can help Liverpool sign Isak

It is bold to suggest that a transfer between Blackburn and Derby could help complete, potentially, the biggest signing in Premier League history.

With that being said, it could be exactly what happens at Anfield, with any funds likely to go towards the purchase of the Sweden international between now and the end of the summer.

Although Jamie Carragher may not want Isak right now, there is no getting away with how huge a signing he could prove to be on Merseyside.

As a result, fans in L4 are now likely to have an eye on the progress of Travis’ transfer in the hope of pushing a deal over the line for the 25-year-old.
