Liverpool beat Arsenal to signing talent capable of breaking into Arne Slot’s squad

Liverpool are looking to build a long-term dynasty under Arne Slot.

The Reds got their Premier League title defence off to the perfect start on Friday as they eventually saw off a defiant Bournemouth 4-2 at Anfield.

Liverpool are favourites to retain the Premier League title this season after a summer spending spree that has totalled almost £300million, with deals for Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi still in the works.

With their oldest signing this summer being Jeremie Frimpong at 24 years of age, it’s clear that the Merseysiders are looking to dominate English football for the next few seasons.

One signing that has gone under the radar emphasises that they don’t want their window to close for a while.

Will Wright looks to break into Liverpool squad after arriving from Salford City

Will Wright is looking to become the next great young talent to come through at Anfield.

Wright, 17, arrived at Liverpool from Salford City in a £200,000 deal this summer, signing a three-year deal on Merseyside.

It looked as though Arsenal had won out in the race for his signature, but Wright was unable to agree on personal terms with the Gunners, which allowed the Reds to swoop in to steal him away.

The striker has impressed scouts throughout his spell in the Salford youth set-up, scoring over 50 goals before being promoted to the senior side for the FA Cup clash at Manchester City.

Wright made his debut in the 3-2 victory over Athletic Bilbao at Anfield earlier this month, and the Sunday Mirror’s print edition (17 August, page 68) has reported that Liverpool believe they have signed a talent capable of breaking into Arne Slot’s first team in the future.

The youngster will face a mighty task in usurping the striker position, especially if Isak is signed this summer, with Hugo Ekitike shining so far at the age of just 23.

Wright needs several loans to have any chance to be Liverpool’s number nine

The Reds’ depth at striker could become the best in the world should they all reach their full potential at Anfield.

However, that will mean the 17-year-old is going to need to prove himself elsewhere on loan if he’s going to prove himself as Slot’s first choice.

The strikers Wright will need to overtake in the future to gain Liverpool‘s starting striker spot, should Isak arrive, include:

A year in the academy likely awaits the young star, before a string of development loans to get him up to speed in English football.
