Alan Shearer blasts Alexander Isak after what Wayne Rooney said about Liverpool target
Alan Shearer was extremely critical of Alexander Isak’s conduct amid the striker’s rumoured move to Liverpool.
The Swedish international was absent from the Newcastle squad that drew 0-0 with Aston Villa at Villa Park, with Isak’s presence being a notable absence for the Magpies.
Liverpool’s dramatic 4-2 win over Bournemouth will only make the prospect of joining the Reds even more attractive for Isak as Arne Slot’s side look set to challenge for the Premier League title once again.
Shearer did not hold back his thoughts on the 25-year-old as Wayne Rooney also had his say on Newcastle’s talisman.

Shearer critical of Isak’s absence
Despite Liverpool being linked with Isak, Hugo Ekitike has come in and hit the ground running, scoring against Crystal Palace in the Community Shield before following it up with a cool finish against Bournemouth at Anfield.
Nevertheless, the Isak saga continues to rumble on and on Match of the Day on 16 August, Rooney had this to say when asked about the Liverpool target: “There are ways to leave a football club, there’s the right way to do it,
“You have to go about it the right way and be professional about it,” the former Everton and Manchester United player said.
Shearer also shared his thoughts on the situation, with the Newcastle legend understandably being angered by Isak’s antics.
“There is a way to do it, and Alex is not going about it the right way at all. You have to feel sorry for the players and the manager,
“They’re looking at another player, wherever he is, refusing to play despite having a three-year contract and on over £100,000 a week,” Shearer said.
Although Liverpool have been tipped by Rooney to win the league this season, signing Isak would not address the defensive concerns that were on display when they took on Bournemouth.

Liverpool may decide to invest the Isak funds elsewhere
Given Ekitike’s fine start to the season and sizeable price tag, Liverpool may opt to bring in a cheaper alternative who is more likely to be content with a backup role at the champions, whilst investing heavily in a centre-back.
The Reds’ defence has looked open at times in pre-season and in the Community Shield, and this has translated over to their Premier League campaign.
Whilst Slot’s side showed immense courage and an unbreakable mentality to get the three points after surrendering a two-goal lead, they cannot make this type of game against Bournemouth a frequent occurrence.
Given Isak’s concerning behaviour and Liverpool’s defensive woes, shifting the transfer strategy and purchasing defensive reinforcements may be the smarter move.
