Eddie Howe reacts to Alexander Isak and Liverpool transfer talk – ‘I would say yes, but…’
Eddie Howe has once again spoken out about Liverpool target Alexander Isak.
The Newcastle United boss has unsurprisingly been quizzed about the Sweden international, who has been so strongly linked with a move to Anfield.
Isak, 25, is looking to force a St James’ Park exit this summer and is yet to train with his teammates this summer, despite the Magpies’ opening game being just one day away (16 August).
With the Premier League clash in mind, Howe has spoken to the media, but the topic soon changed to the future of the Merseyside-linked forward.
Howe speaks out on Isak future
After Liverpool sold Darwin Nunez to Al Hilal, it has certainly opened the door for another striker to make their way to L4 before the end of the summer.
This has seen links to the Swede only grow stronger in recent weeks, especially as he looks to force through a summer exit from the north east.
It is fair to say that scrutiny has surrounded Isak after refusing to play for Newcastle in favour of joining the Reds before the window comes to an end.
Regardless of this, it is clear that the 27-goal man is still wanted at Anfield, with Virgil van Dijk seemingly publicly showing his desire to sign Isak.

As a result, it will be music to the ears of Arne Slot and Co. to hear the uncertainty that Howe has over the 25-year-old’s future at St James’.
Speaking ahead of Newcastle’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa, quoted by Lee Ryder (15 August), the English head coach shared an update on the striker.
When asked whether Isak would still be at Newcastle in September, he said: “At the moment I would say yes, but I’ve had no change of feeling throughout the summer.
“He’s contracted to us, but it’s out of my hands.”

Isak could edge closer to Liverpool move
Although Jamie Carragher may not want Isak, after signing Hugo Ekitike, there is no doubt that he would be a stellar addition this summer.
The ex-Real Sociedad man is an elite-level finisher and also has the ability on the ball to make him one of the best players in the Premier League.
With the Reds wanting to defend their Premier League title this season, signing the best players can only be seen as a boost to the squad.
Now the L4 club have to wait and see whether a deal will be possible, but based on Howe’s comments, it feels as if an agreement is there to be made.
