Joe Gomez drops major hint about availability for Liverpool vs Bournemouth amid injury worry
Joe Gomez appears to have just dropped a major hint regarding his availability for Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth.
The reigning champions are now just days away from beginning the defence of their crown, with the Cherries due to visit Anfield to open the new campaign on Friday night.
Arne Slot’s men will be aiming to get off to the perfect start on home turf, amid their ongoing attempts to continue what has been a remarkable transfer window.
Liverpool are still chasing a deal for Marc Guehi, who could be about to become their seventh addition of a hugely impressive summer.

Gomez could return vs Bournemouth as training photo shared
Gomez’s availability for Liverpool’s encounter with Bournemouth has come into question, given that the centre-back is recovering from an injury and has played little part in pre-season.
The Englishman hasn’t featured for the Reds since their game against Championship side Preston North End, which served as the opening assignment of their summer preparations.
- Gomez was limited to just six Premier League starts for Liverpool in 2024/25
- He hasn’t featured since the opening game of pre-season
- He now appears to back in training ahead of the league opener
He has been recovering from an achilles injury, and while his exact return date has so far been unclear, the 28-year-old may even be in line to make his return to the matchday squad against Andoni Iraola’s side.
Gomez has missed a significant amount of action this summer, but he has now confirmed that he has returned to first-team training, as he posted a picture of himself in action at Melwood on Wednesday afternoon.
Gomez still has a key role to play for Liverpool
Ibrahima Konate’s future at Anfield remains up in the air, with the Frenchman’s contract due to expire at the end of the upcoming campaign.
Gomez has had a hugely frustrating last 12 months, as he has been plagued by numerous injury problems, but a likely exit for Konate will mean that he still has a crucial role to play for Slot over the next few years.
The Reds are arguably short of options at the centre of their backline, and thyey must also be well aware of the fact that Virgil van Dijk will surely now be heading into the twilight of his career.
As a result, if Konate does depart within the next year or so, then Gomez will surely be needed to step up into a more regular role, providing that he can stay fit.
